Advancing Green Competences through Integrated Urban Mobility Education
The integration of environmental, economic, social, and institutional dimensions in sustainable urban mobility reflects the complexity and interdependence of urban systems. Each dimension contributes uniquely to the resilience and inclusivity of mobility solutions: environmental aspects address climate and ecological impacts; economic factors ensure resource efficiency and viability; social considerations promote equity and accessibility; and institutional frameworks enable coherent governance and strategic implementation.
The GreenComp framework provides a unifying structure for developing the competences necessary to navigate these dimensions effectively. By fostering systems thinking, critical analysis, civic engagement, and values-based decision-making, GreenComp equips learners with the tools to address sustainability challenges holistically and responsibly.
Despite growing awareness, current educational and professional practices often lack interdisciplinary integration, practical application, and competence-based learning. Fragmented approaches, limited stakeholder engagement, and insufficient emphasis on behavioral and systemic change remain persistent weaknesses in the field.
The proposed module directly addresses these gaps by offering a structured, project-based learning experience that mirrors real-world complexity. It empowers students to analyze urban mobility systems, identify context-specific challenges, and co-develop actionable solutions. In doing so, it not only enhances their understanding of sustainable mobility but also actively cultivates the green competences needed to become transformative agents in urban development.
