2. How to get started with 3D Printing?
In this section we will cover an introduction to 3D printing technology and you will get started with your first 3D print. 3D printing is an additive manufacturing technology that allows for the creation of physical objects from digital designs. It works by layering material, typically plastic, to build up a three-dimensional object. The process starts with creating a 3D model using computer-aided design (CAD) software, using a slicer-software to slice the 3D-model into its individual layers and then sending the file to the 3D printer where it is brought to life through the layering process, which is similar to using a hot glue gun. This technology is about to revolutionize the way products are designed and manufactured, providing new opportunities for innovation and customization. It also offers many benefits, including faster prototyping, reduced waste, and the ability to produce complex and intricate designs that would be difficult or impossible to produce through traditional manufacturing methods. You will learn the basics about this in this lesson.

About Lesson

Timeframe and Organization

The modul will be offered during the time period:

13. march until 23.june 2023

During this time you can regularly contact Nele on Discord if you have any questions

Every Friday between 10-12 Nele will be available on Discord to talk about the module. #Get-Together

These consultations are voluntary and will be organised online via the Discord platform.

Students will independently study the materials in this digital content library.

Students may consult individual on Discord.

The study process is enriched by quizzes to be solved and further mandatory communication activities on Discord.

Students work individually focusing on resource-efficient 3D printing. They will pass the project in the determined form, present the project and participate in a discussion about the project with the staff.

Students will be assesed on the project submitted and defended (compulsory part of the evaluation) and on the completion of quizzes in the module (optional part of the evaluation).

There are two options for the deadlines:

early hand-in

project report hand-in until 15.6.

late hand-in

project report hand-in until 15.8


project presentations on Friday 23. of June (starting at 9:00AM)
